Nose surgeries does not involve external incisions. For nose reshaping cuts are usually made inside the nose and are not therefore visible while. In some cases, however, it is necessary to make an incision in the underside of the point where the nostrils meet the skin above the upper lip. More minor surgeries such as nose implants or tipoplasty can be carried out under local anaesthetic.
Nose reshaping surgery is performed under General Anesthesia, but nose implant surgery is performed under local anesthesia.
After surgery, you are likely to feel some pain. It is necessary to leave dressing material in the nostrils for twenty-four hours, during which time you have to breath through your mouth. Following the procedure, considerable swelling can develop in the face around the nose - affecting, for example, the eyelids. This swelling subsides after a few days. After the operation, dressings or a cast may be applied to the nose, extending up to the forehead. These can be removed after a week. The swelling visible on the nose after removal of the dressing or cast may persist for several months.
